If you're in the market for an SUV that's equally comfortable on pavement or trails, two standout options are the 2019 Discovery and the 2019 Toyota Sequoia. While these two models share many features, such as comfortable interiors and powerful performance, it's important to compare the two to see which is the right fit.

Performance

Whether your SUV will traverse the roughest terrain or take on morning traffic with your kids, you want to know you have the power you need. Capable engines not only provide you with towing and off-roading ability, but they also ensure you have the power you need when you pass or merge on the highway.

Looking at performance, the Discovery takes the prize. Equipped with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder engine with 443 pound-feet of torque, the Discovery is ready to take on whatever the road has in store. The Sequoia has a 5.7-liter V8 engine that produces 401 pound-feet of torque, which makes it a little less capable than the Discovery. The Sequoia only comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, as well, which falls short of the acceleration and lower engine speed available with the Discovery's slick eight-speed automatic.

Luxury & Convenience

With how much time you spend in your vehicle, you'll want to be sure it has the comfort, space, and luxury you're looking for. Whether you need a lot of cargo capacity for your weekend adventures or space for your kids and all their friends, your vehicle's cabin is an important consideration.

When it comes to space, the Discovery beats out the Sequoia with 5.2 inches of more front headroom and 4.1 inches of extra rear headroom, along with 3.4 inches of more third-row headroom. The Discovery also has optional tailgating rear seats that can be deployed to allow people to sit facing out while the vehicle is in motion, which isn't an option for the Sequoia. It also has a third-row seat that folds flat into the floor, creating 82.7 cubic feet of storage capacity.

Safety & Security

No matter what else you're looking for in a vehicle, safety features are paramount. Knowing you have pre-collision protection and a sturdy, reliable structure in the event of a collision gives you significant peace of mind.

For enhanced safety, the Discovery has pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts in the event of a collision, which aren't available for the Sequoia. It's also standard in full-time four-wheel drive, which is an expensive add-on for the Sequoia. Hill-descent control, a surround-view camera, and remote vehicle access are also available for the Discovery, adding another layer of safety and protection. None of these features are available for the Sequoia.

Other than the previously mentioned features, both the Discovery and the Sequoia include multiple airbags, antilock brakes, traction control, lane departure warning, and some other standard safety features.

In the SUV class, the 2019 Discovery outperforms its main rival, the 2019 Sequoia, in performance, luxury, and safety. Experience the new Discovery for yourself with a test drive at Hennessy Land Rover North Atlanta today!
